Lime Kiln Big Sur Camping

We visited Lime Kiln State Park while camping at Kirk Creek nearby. I agree with the Aron that this is a wonderful gem of a park. The beach is spectacular and the creeks are filled with little cascades that are a joy to photograph. The surrounding terrain is so dry and scrubby that the park is a complete surprise for its lushness and green beauty.

Jun 25, 2017 Camping here is so cheap too, so this might be a good option for your outdoorsy stay at Big Sur! We headed toward the Lime Kiln and Waterfall trails, and were immediately mesmerized by the peace within the forest. Once we walked a little bit away from the camp, it felt like there was not a soul there except us, and the giant trees.

On our camping trip to big sur we visited 4 of the major state parks pfeiffer big sur, Andrew molera, Julia pfeiffer burns and lime kiln. My husband and I agree this is the best one because it offered great hiking trails, private camping spots, wood at a cheaper price than anywhere in big sur, friendly staff.

Limekiln State Park Campground has 29 beautiful campsites set among spectacular redwood trees along Limekiln Creek in Big Sur. All sites are reservable. The Redwood loop sites 1329 has campsites on the inland side and scattered along Limekiln Creek. The Ocean loop include sites 112 for RVs and are closest to the beach access trail.

The beach at Limekiln State Park sits in the shadow of a tall bridge on Highway 1 in the southern Big Sur area. While the rock and sand beach in this steep creek valley is excellent to visit, the main reason to stop here is to hike the trails.

The Rockland Lime and Lumber Company would load the towers of the kilns with limestone and use redwood lumber to stoke fires at their bases to purify the rock before it was hauled out of the canyon and down to the coast where ships were waiting. The lime was eventually used in cement and other products.
